Haloa Community: Housing and Features

The Hāloa neighborhood has served as Ho'opili’s first townhome and condo release and includes homes ranging from 751 through 1,836 square feet. Initial sales began in April of 2017, so these homes are still young. There are 140 units in total, each containing 1 to 3 bedrooms. Residents have access to the Ho'opili community amenities, such as recreation centers and extra-wide sidewalks.

Hāloa includes townhomes, condominiums, flats, and flex homes. If you aren’t familiar with flex homes, these dual-purpose units can be used for both residential and commercial purposes. This is perfect for entrepreneurs looking to have a brick-and-mortar establishment right underneath their living space. The walkability of the Ho'opili neighborhood provides opportunities for plenty of foot traffic around the area, and the focus on locally grown foods and goods helps set the scene for a community that values the contributions of its members.

A majority of Hāloa homes come with parking stalls, and some of them include a 1-car garage and an uncovered parking stall. Particular amenities may vary depending on the specific unit, though amenities commonly associated with units in this neighborhood include a private yard, BBQ, a community clubhouse, and a patio or deck. Some homes may also include a privacy wall or fence.

One of the unique facts about Hāloa is that it was the first phase in Ho'opili to sell brand new homes at prices that fit within the Affordable Housing initiative. To qualify for these homes, buyers had to meet particular income requirements, along with other specifications required for participation in the program, such as Hawaiian citizenship. This initiative helped families, including first-time home buyers, to have opportunities for home ownership within an evolving community.

Since these homes have been sold, prices for resale units are going to vary based on the seller. Scroll down to see units for sale below.

More on the Hoopili Development

Living in the Hāloa neighborhood means being a part of the greater Ho'opili master-planned development. Located in Kapolei and Ewa Beach, Ho'opili is a modern community outside of downtown Honolulu that offers many conveniences often found in the city while maintaining a small town atmosphere.

What makes Ho'opili special is the way in which it was designed to promote physical activity, environmental initiatives, and the overall well-being of its residents. As mentioned previously, Ho'opili is a very walkable community. It includes wide sidewalks, walking trails, and bike lanes. Residents won’t have to worry about big city traffic in Ho'opili!

Some of the Ho'opili community amenities have already been established, while others are still in the works (but have been planned). Once Ho'opili is completed, it will include a total of 5 schools (3 elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school), several major parks that are maintained by the city (as well as smaller parks within the individual neighborhoods), and plenty of restaurants, grocery stores, and shops. Ideally, members of the community could live, work, and go to school all within the development. Avoiding longer commutes opens up more time to be spent doing other things!

Another unique aspect of the Ho'opili development is the inclusion of urban gardens outside of the homes. Basically, developers have designed landscaping that can be used for additional purposes aside from just aesthetics (such as fruit-bearing trees). Ho'opili is committed to doing right by the environment and supporting community farmers.
