Makali‘i at Wailea is an upscale neighborhood located in South Maui (and, more specifically, within the Wailea neighborhood). It is a relatively small community with 68 units featuring either 2 or 3 bedrooms. Established in 2020, the homes are still quite new, though they are designed in classic, mid-century modern Hawaiiana style.
The architectural design was intentionally curated to represent common Hawaiian values, such as respect and sustainability. The design also effectively incorporates the lush greenery of the area, weaving in the outside with the inside in an artistic manner to help create a serene environment that promotes thoughtfulness. In fact, the development’s website states, “A life at Makali‘i is to live lightly, but experience deeply.”
Something that makes these townhomes different from other communities is the layout of the homes. Instead of having numerous units in one building, there are only four units per building. Each of the 17 buildings is only 2-stories. This design helps maintain the privacy of residents and provides a more tranquil, quiet environment.
An additional factor that makes Makali‘i unique is that these homes are not available to be rented for vacation. This helps prevent the constant shuffling in and out of travelers visiting for short trips, and it keeps the community amenities exclusive to residents living in the neighborhood. At the end of the day, you’ll come home to an actual “home,” rather than a resort filled with visitors on vacation.
Like the overall architectural design, the attention to detail can also be seen inside of these homes and in the community amenities available to residents. There are four different floorplans that have been named Residence A, Residence AL, Residence B, and Residence BG.
Residence A is a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom floorplan that includes 1,574 square feet of living space. It features a 2-car garage, a giant courtyard, and a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and double sinks in the bathroom.
Residence AL includes the same square footage of living space, but it is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom unit. My favorite feature of this floorplan is that the master and secondary bedrooms are located on two separate floors, providing increased privacy to residents. The master bedroom also includes a huge walk-in closet, and the bathroom comes with double sinks and a tub. Like residence A, Residence AL includes a 2-car garage.
Next, we have Residence B, which has a lot in common (in terms of structure and layout) with Residence AL. This 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom floorplan includes 1,562 square feet of living space. It comes with a 1-car garage that also provides extra storage space.
Lastly, Residence BG is a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom unit with a guest suite. This is the largest floorplan in the community, with 1,802 square feet of living space. Residence BG also comes with 3 lanais, allowing for residents and guests to enjoy quiet moments outside without disturbing anyone else in the home.
There are several features that are incorporated into each of the homes at Makali‘i at Wailea, regardless of the floorplan. Every unit comes with a lanai for enjoying the beautiful greenery of the land. The kitchens are equipped with beautiful kitchen islands and a luxurious Viking brand range, dishwasher, and microwave. You’ll find floor-to-ceiling windows allowing you to easily take in the beautiful views around you. Each home comes with an enclosed garage, and the entire community is gated.
Homeowners at Makali‘i at Wailea will have access to the coveted community Residents’ Club. This state-of-the-art facility is located at the top of the hill, so it is a wonderful access point for those looking for panoramic views of the land and the Auʻau Channel. Those who are looking to take a walk in nature can follow one of the paths that lead from the club to small, colorful parks. Take in the beauty of the Makali‘i sculpture, a work of art that was created specifically for the community.
Take a dip in the reflective community infinity pool or take some time for yourself in the health club and spa. You’ll have access to a gym with locker rooms that also includes a sauna. Additionally, you’ll find a culinary area and pavilion that is perfect for hosting friends and family members.
Makali‘i at Wailea homes start from $1.7 million. There is also a monthly maintenance fee that varies depending on the size of the unit. This fee ranges from around $869 through $1,086 per month. Residents will have access to all community amenities and will also be able to enjoy closeness to local restaurants, shops, and beaches.
Although Makali‘i at Wailea has a lot to offer in itself, it is also situated in a location that makes it easy for residents to find something to do for fun and relaxation. The community is located within walking distance of beaches and is situated near 3 top golf courses that overlook the waters. Whether you’re playing a round of golf, whale watching, or snorkeling in the clear waters, you’ll find so many ways to spend your time close to home.
Another place of interest located near Makali‘i is The Shops at Wailea. This shopping center includes numerous luxurious designer stores and high-class dining. You can find some of the most celebrated restaurants on the island and get all of your shopping done in one place.
