Begun in 1950 as Hawai’i’s first master-planned community, Kahului’s early subdivisions are 3- bedroom concrete block homes on 9,000-10,000 sq. ft. lots, with some homes today only slightly modified from their original enduring quality design. Close to Kahalui Harbor and the UH Maui campus are mid-70s low-rise condos. In the mid-1990s, construction began on the first of nine Maui Lani subdivisions.
