Salt Lake Homes & Condos for Sale

Seated in the Capitol City of Honolulu, Salt Lake is a green suburban neighborhood located to the north of the island’s main airport, in an ancient volcanic crater. It is a community that was born during a huge construction phase in the 1960s and is now made up of high-rise buildings, mid-rises, townhomes, and single-family homes.

The community is planted in and around a crater named “Alia pa’akai,” next to what remains of the community’s freshwater lake. Its former name and now nickname is “Aliamanu,” meaning “salt pond” in Hawaiian. The remnants of this pretty lake sit in the crater today and remains a beautiful sight.

The Salt Lake neighborhood is surrounded by multiple military bases; Hickam Air Force Base, Pearl Harbor, Fort Shafter, Camp Smith, and the Tripler Army Center. It's a convenient commute to almost anywhere on Oahu with very quick access to the three main highways: H1, H201, and H3. And when the retail shopping mood strikes, Pearlridge Mall, is a short drive away.

Within the neighborhood, residents call the Salt Lake Shopping Center their local outdoor mall. Here, big draw stores include McDonald's, Longs Drugs, Safeway, and many local eateries. For outdoor enjoyment and exercise, there are multiple parks, the largest being Salt Lake District Park, which has several hiking trails leading to the crater, as well as tennis, basketball, baseball fields, a huge gym, a swimming pool, and of course the big salt lake from which it gets its name. And for its youngest of residents, the neighborhood is home to some of the most coveted public schools on the island.
