Looking at Hawaiki Tower from Piikoi St.

Hawaiki Tower: The Basics

Hawaiki Tower was designed by architect Barry Patten and GYA Architects, Inc. It was contracted by the Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company. The designs were drafted over the span of 4 years, with construction beginning near the end of 1996. Construction continued through 1999, when the tower was finally completed.

Now, Hawaiki Tower stands tall, with 46 stories built across 400 vertical feet. This mixed-use building houses 417 residential units, 8 commercial units, and 2 retail units. Designs accounted for plenty of parking. There are 730 residential spots and 13 guest spots. An additional 64 spots are provided for commercial use.

Hawaiki Tower’s contemporary charm is accented by its perfectly manicured landscaping and its position in arguably one of the most desired districts in Honolulu. The building also situates residents to enjoy views of Diamond Head, Waikiki, and Ala Moana Beach Park.

Unit Highlights

The condos at Hawaiki Tower come in 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom floor plans that are spacious and unique. The bottom 4 floors are for commercial units, with the residential units beginning on the 5th floor. The number of units per floor varies across different parts of the building. The 5th floor features 5 residential units. Floors 6-34 each have 11 residential units, and floors 35-44 each have 8 units. The 8 penthouse units are located on the 45th-46th floors, stretching across both floors.

Residential floor plan sizes vary per individual unit for the 2-3-bedroom homes. The 1-bedroom units are 842 square feet, while the 2-bedrooms range from 997 through 1618 square feet. The 3-bedroom floor plans are the penthouse units, and they range from 2,126 through 2,369 square feet. Some of the penthouse units also include lanais.

Once inside, you’ll be welcomed by a gourmet kitchen with Sub-Zero and Gaggenau appliances. The kitchen countertops are made of granite and are accented by designer cabinetry. Units come with a breakfast bar with extra counter space. Each bathroom is full-sized and is equipped with beautiful marble countertops. Some floor plans include walk-in closets in the master bedroom, and there are options for roommate-style layouts, meaning that the bedrooms are on opposite sides of the unit, proving increased privacy.

Hawaiki Amenities: Beautifully Designed

Hawaiki Tower offers top-notch amenities for residents and their guests. Upon entering the building, you’ll be greeted by a luxurious 3-story lobby, complete with marble floors and a glass wall that provides views of the well-manicured landscaping.

The grounds are equipped with two pools: a regular swimming pool and a lap pool for exercise. Each pool has a vanishing edge, creating the illusion of the Pacific Ocean coming right up into the pool. Although the building is kid-friendly, the pool does not have a lifeguard, so it is important for families to keep a particularly close eye on their little ones. Residents can also enjoy the building’s spa and sundeck. In fact, the height of Hawaiki Tower provides for great views of the free fireworks shows hosted by the nearby hotels each week.

Additionally, amenities include a tennis court that can be reserved. Reservations are made at the Resident Manager’s office or the security office and cover 1 hour of time up. There are also options to skip the reservation and head up to the court whenever, as long as no one else has already made a reservation.

Hawaiki Tower also has BBQ areas that can be used by residents and their guests. You can even reserve them for private parties as well. Kids will love the on-site playground, which also includes an adult exercise par course and a putting green. Don’t forget to check out the deck on the 36th floor, which has a winter garden area, complete with an ocean view.

Although Hawaiki Tower has the amenities of a luxury complex, the maintenance fees are lower than what is generally expected. The building is pet-friendly and has been well-maintained over the years.

Ala Moana Lifestyle

Living in Hawaiki Tower means living close to some of the most beloved hot spots in Ala Moana. The building is right next to the Ala Moana Shopping Center, which is the most spacious open-air mall in the world. Ala Moana features over 350 commercial entities, including more than 160 options for dining. There is a wide variety of stores in the center, from big-name department stores to local boutiques. My favorite time to shop is during the pop-up markets, which feature unique, handmade items from local sellers. Find something unique for the home or simply window shop for a fun and relaxing afternoon!

Additionally, the Ala Moana Shopping Center hosts free events and shows. There is a live hula show every day, and you may also catch a children’s hula show from time to time. The site also features shows by local dance groups, like the Hawaii Rainbow Dance Group, and musical performances by local high school bands and orchestras.

Another highlight of the area is the Ala Moana Beach Park. You’ll find about a half-mile of sandy beach and an additional half-crescent beach named Magic Island. The waters are calm and are perfect for families with little ones. If you paddle out far enough, you’ll be able to catch some surfing waves.

The park is also a great place to relax on warm afternoons, with its shady trees and expansive grassy areas. There are also paved pathways for walking and biking, and you can even rent a bike right in the park. Tennis court booked at Hawaiki Tower? Take a quick stroll to the park, where you’ll find additional courts, BBQ grills, and picnic tables. The park is just a quick walk away, but if you have a lot of bags and need to drive, parking is always free.

Future plans for Ala Moana Beach Park include the addition of two sand volleyball courts, a new playground, and a bike path. Contractors also plan to widen the pathways and increase the number of lights for nighttime. The park continues to grow and improve, and it’s no surprise that it has become a popular place for hosting events or simply enjoying some time outdoors with the family.

Hawaiki Tower, with its excellent location and well-kept grounds, is a great option for singles, couples, and small families who want to be in the center of all things Ala Moana. The ocean shore is just steps away, and many of the other necessities (like pharmacies and groceries) are also within walking distance, making Hawaiki Tower the perfect place to have your next home!
