Ilima will be one of the most unique and highly sought-after luxury developments in Ward Village, mainly because of its partnership with Discovery Land Company. Howard Hughes Corporation and Discovery Land Company have joined forces to develop this tower, which will include Discovery Land's signature concierge services for residents.
The choice of the name Ilima was influenced by the native flowers, plants and animals, specifically those found along Hawaii's shorelines. This connection is fitting because Ilima at Ward Village is a front-row development situated right across from Ala Moana Beach Park. Moreover, Ilima holds recognition as a popular flower in Hawaii and was officially designated as the flower of Oahu back in 1923.
Ilima Ward Village will be a stunning 33-story tower comprised of 148 luxurious residences. The unit mix includes 92 two-bedrooms, 48 three-bedrooms, 6 four-bedrooms, and 2 five-bedrooms, catering to a range of lifestyle preferences. In fact, this is the first tower in Ward Village to exclude 1 bedroom units.
The residences on floors 7 to 33 facing the ocean or Diamond Head feature lanais, while the top floors offer lanais on all sides. Ilima provides 420 off-street parking spaces and 65 bicycle parking stalls at the street level, promoting convenience and sustainability.
Ilima's design draws inspiration from the original architects of the Honolulu Museum of Art and YWCA Building, as well as local architects Charles W. Dickey and Vladimir Ossipoff, who designed the historic IBM building next door. It embraces Honolulu's historic architecture by incorporating elements such as multi-slope roofs and screens, offset axial planning principles, and colonnades, blending tradition with innovation.
When you explore the renderings, you'll notice that Ilima's podium seamlessly connects to the podium of its neighboring tower, Melia. Both towers are uniquely positioned and both form an L shape, allowing for breathtaking views of Diamond Head and the ocean. The stone patterns have some resemblance to the The Bellemont in New York, a new development that was also designed by Robert A.M. Stern Architects (RAMSA).
Ilima Ward Village will replace Ward Centre, specifically the side where Kid City is. It'll lay between the historic IBM Building and Melia at Ward Village and will be directly across the street from Normstrom Rack and TJ Maxx.
According to Ilima Ward Village's floor plans, there will only be 6 units on each floor except for the top floors. This translates into more privacy and more space. Comparing pricing with other ultra-luxury towers and understanding that there are no studios or one-bedrooms, we believe that Ilima will have the most expensive residences in Ward Village.
In Kakaako, it's typical for developments to feature amenities on a recreation deck and sometimes on the first floor, however, Ilima sets itself apart by offering amenities on both the 5th and 6th floors. This unique approach ensures residents have ample options for relaxation and recreation. The proposed amenities include a fitness center, spa, lounge, dining room, kid's club, family and kid's pool, pool bar, lap pool, bar, roof deck, and storage. It's worth noting that these amenities are subject to change or additional features may be added, which adds to the anticipation and excitement surrounding Ilima's offerings.
Ward Village stands out as one of America's most remarkable master-planned communities, boasting five land blocks and a total of 16 planned residential and mixed-use developments. Among these, 14 projects have already been announced, proposed, or developed. Ilima and Melia, situated in Land Block 4, represent the final front-row developments, offering the closest proximity to the beach, Ala Moana Shopping Center and Waikiki.
And let's not forget about the restaurants and trendy retail shops that attract both local and tourists alike. As if that's not enough, the upcoming development of Diamond Head Plaza Park and Ka La‘i o Kukuluāe‘o Park will provide even more open space to gather, unwind, and connect with residents in the area. Ward Village truly knows how to create an environment that celebrates community and fosters a sense of belonging.
