These condominiums are currently in the planning and pre-construction phase and are expected to be completed in 2025. While the Hawai‘i Regulatory Board has approved the project, the Hawai‘i Community Development Authority (HCDA) and the city and county of Honolulu is focused on addressing climate change concerns including sea level rise.
The mixed-used development will be located on the 355,000+ sqft corner lot of Ala Moana Boulevard and Ward Avenue, a perfect location for walking to the many restaurants, shops, and green spaces in the East Village, which is also referred to as the ‘Ewa side.
Its design is anticipated to seamlessly flow between the inside and outside, meaning each unit will include open floor plans, floor-to-ceiling windows, and modern fixtures and decor inspired by Hawai‘i's natural environment.
The Kalae luxury apartments will be located in the East Village neighborhood within the Ward Village. This area rests between Waikiki and Downtown, and it offers plenty of desirable community attractions. Ward Village is around 60 acres in size and is close to the ocean shore. This community is urban, yet it also includes some of the parts of living in a small town that people tend to love—culture, history, and a sense of community through togetherness.
Ward Village is known for being pedestrian-friendly, and walkers and bikers will be thrilled to know that it is close to several parks. Victoria Ward Park, located right in the city, offers picnic sites and green spaces to be active. There is also Ala Moana Beach Park, which is situated along the shoreline. The water near Ala Moana is gentle and calm, making it a good place to bring children to swim or to practice paddle boarding. This park includes picnic sites and tennis courts.
Kewalo Harbor is also located in the Ward Village area. This harbor includes 30 acres of vessels and is a hub for sailors and fishermen. Surfers and divers also frequently practice their sports in this harbor. It makes for a beautiful view and will be offered as one of the viewpoints from the condos at Kalae.
Outside of water activities, there are additional places to spend your free time in Ward Village. The Kaka’ako Farmers Market, open Saturday mornings, provides an array of locally grown foods and artisan goods to be purchased. You’ll be able to fill your kitchen with fresh, healthy foods and know that you are contributing to the overall sustainability of your community.
Additionally, families may be interested in the East Village Shops + South Shore Market as well as the Ward Centre, which include facilities such as a yoga studio, cafés, clothing stores (both boutiques and chains), a dog spa, and a variety of sit-down and take away restaurants. Whether you want to shop at a one-of-a-kind boutique or get awesome discount deals at Nordstrom Rack, these shopping centers will help you find what you’re looking for without having to drive from place to place. Once you stop to get a bite to eat, you’ll find choices ranging from sushi to Mediterranean food to Vietnamese food.

One of the most unique features of The Ward is the overall sense of community, despite the urban location.
