Many
of the buildings in the Kakaako
development are high-rise condominiums with huge parking garages and
amenity decks. 400 Keawe is different in that it is located and a
prime area but doesn’t incorporate all the bells and whistles often
found in the luxury buildings. While this may sound like a negative,
excluding expensive amenities is what keeps the prices lower (with
both market and affordable housing available) and significantly
decreases the maintenance fees.
While
400 Keawe does not offer special amenities, the actual units create a
contemporary feel and include plenty of desirable features. Unlike
some of the other complexes around, unit owners may rent out their
condos, so the property can be utilized to generate supplemental
income. The size of the complex lends itself to promoting a community
feel within an urban backdrop.
Each
unit kitchen comes with a refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave as
included appliances. Counters are lined with quartz countertops and
beautiful backsplashes. Kitchen appliances are high-end Bosch brand,
and an under mounted kitchen sink is also included. Cabinets are
well-made with obscured glass facing, providing additional stylistic
charm to the whole layout.
Unit
flooring is made of top-notch simulated wood grain laminate in the
kitchen and the bathrooms. The remainder of the home is covered in
soft carpeting. Air conditioning is provided via package terminal air
conditioning (PTAC), and each unit includes a full-size GE washer and
dryer. A few of the units come with outdoor lanais, though the height
of the building and its positioning around high rises does not allow
for significant views.
Residents
have parking available near the building, which includes some covered
stalls. Additionally, the building features a 14,500 square foot
plaza as well as a pedestrian passage. The neighborhood is highly
walkable, and there is bike parking available near the complex. You
may even be able to walk or bike to work while living at 400 Keawe!
400
Keawe features 1, 2, and 3-bedroom units across a variety of
different floor plans. Smaller units are around 582 square feet, while
the larger units are almost 1,400 square feet. Depending on the
particular unit, there are additional floor plan features, such as
breakfast bars, master-bedroom walk-in closets, dual vanities in the
master bathroom, and kitchen islands.
One
of the benefits of having a variety of floor plan designs is the
option to choose a plan that fits your lifestyle. For example, some
of the 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom layouts have bedrooms at opposite sides
of the unit in a “roommate style.” Some of the larger units have
a den within the master bedroom that could be utilized as an office
space. This is perfect for individuals who work from home or simply
want some extra bedroom space for a sitting area or small library.
The
Our Kakaako
master-planned development covers 9 city blocks and offers a
multitude of walkable attractions and conveniences. One of the
benefits of living at 400 Keawe is being able to explore the
surrounding area on foot or by bike. The community is also built near
a planned rail station, so residents will be able to make their way
outside of the development without having to use a car; however, if
you do want or need to have a car, keep in mind that 400 Keawe also
has parking spaces, some of which are covered.
Our
Kakaako
is a culturally vibrant neighborhood that values art and innovation.
You’ll see walls covered with beautiful murals and plenty of
locally owned shops and restaurants. The SALT commercial center is
across the street from 400 Keawe and includes 85,000 square feet of
commercial space. In 2018, SALT received the Shopping Center of the
Year award. Our Kakaako
also includes niche stores, such as a record store and a gym. There
are also a variety of restaurant options covering everything from
seafood to bar snacks.
Other
highlights of life at 400 Keawe (and within Our Kakaako,
in general), include living close to places that fulfill practical
needs. For example, 400 Keawe is located a block away from Down to
Earth, a local grocery store. The Mother Waldron Park is also nearby
and provides a public space to enjoy the outdoors. It’s easy to
remain active at Our Kakaako
with all of the walkable attractions and restaurants!
400 Keawe is a wonderful choice for individuals and families who want to live within the Our Kakaako master-planned development without having to pay the exorbitant amenity fees that are often associated with high-rise developments in the area. 400 Keawe provides well-constructed units and includes appliances that are frequently left out in condominium properties, such as full-sized washer/dryer sets and microwaves. If you’re looking to live in an urban setting that features a vibrant local culture and appreciates Hawaiian tradition, 400 Keawe should definitely be considered.
