A Collection of Options

The Collection is appropriately named, as it offers several types of housing in a variety of sizes. These homes were built in 2016, so they are resale homes, and some of them have been customized by previous owners. This is not necessarily a negative, as it adds to the uniqueness of each individual unit. The Collection is a mixed-use residential complex featuring 397 units.

Developed by Alexander & Baldwin, this development consists of a 43-story high-rise tower, a mid-rise section, and townhomes. The development was designed by Design Partners Inc. (based in Hawaii) and Peppa George Haynes (based in Chicago).

In the mid-rise section of the complex, you’ll primarily find studios, with a few 2-bedroom units. This section is the most affordable and offers a great opportunity for first-time home buyers, with original prices in the mid-$300,000s.

The Collection townhomes are grand in size and provide street-level entryways. Each unit comes with an attached 2-car garage for parking. This is an excellent option for families who want to have a more detached style of home but also want access to the amenities that come along with condominium-style living.

In the main tower, you’ll find 1-bedroom (from 579 to 580 square feet), 2-bedroom (from 870 to 1,037 square feet), and 3-bedroom (from 1,133 to 1,219 square feet) units. There are around 10 units per floor, so each floor is not overly crowded. 4 elevators service the building, so you shouldn’t have to wait too long to catch an elevator to your floor.

Inside the units, there are floor-to-ceiling windows made with Low-e glass. This type of glass is reflective, meaning it helps keep the heat of the sun out of the unit so that it is easier to maintain control over the temperature inside the unit. This also helps to reduce the electric bill, so it is a win-win situation.

Kitchens are contemporary in style and include beautiful quartz countertops. My favorite part of the kitchen is the Kohler stainless-steel deep rectangular sink, which is both visually appealing and very functional for cooking and cleaning dishes. Kitchens also come with built-in microwave ovens and stainless steel appliances.

Flooring at The Collection is tiled in the entryways and kitchen, while the living rooms and bedrooms have soft, comfortable carpet. If you purchase a 2-bedroom unit, you’ll get the extra benefit of having walk-in closets to store your clothes and other belongings.

One of the best parts of living at The Collection is the views, which can be seen through the glass doors. The development includes views of the ocean, Diamond Head, the mountains, and the harbor. Your view is dependent on the location of the particular unit. All units include lanais, so whichever view you choose, you’ll be able to enjoy it right outside of your home!

A Collection of Amenities

Like many of the developments in the area, The Collection includes an amenity deck that is accessible to all residents. In my opinion, the best feature of the deck is the pool that overlooks Honolulu Harbor. Residents can go for a relaxing swim in front of a beautiful backdrop. The pool area also includes 2 Jacuzzis and 3 poolside cabanas. For those who would rather lie out in the sun, there are plenty of lounge chairs available to use so that you can catch some rays.

Additionally, residents will find opportunities to entertain themselves and their guests on the amenities deck. There are 3 private, covered BBQ cabanas along with an entertainment room that is equipped for Karaoke. Have a dinner with your friends in the recreation room, which includes a full-sized kitchen and a flat screen TV. This is the perfect setup for having company over to watch the big game.

Other amenities enjoyed at The Collection include storage areas for resident bikes and surfboards, an outdoor theater, a dog park, and a gym. The gym is pretty complete, with a variety of equipment available, which helps residents can save money by ditching any additional gym membership. The gym also includes a separate multi-purpose room, which could be used for activities like yoga and dance.

Residents at The Collection can rest assured, as the building has secured entry as well as an on-site residential manager. Costs for the units range greatly, especially since they are resale units, but generally fall within the range of $500,000 through $2,000,000. Like other developments, The Collection does include monthly maintenance fees, which are based off of the square footage of the unit.

A Collection of Attractions

The Collection is located in an ever-growing neighborhood in the heart of Kakaako, specifically within the master-planned area called Our Kakaako. It is close to the impending civic rail station, which will provide public transportation opportunities for residents, although there are local attractions within walking distance of the development. Enjoy walking along the water at the Kakaako Waterfront Park or doing some shopping and dining in some of the numerous retail facilities available nearby.

This development is across the street from SALT at Our Kakaako, which is an awesome place for friends and families to meet up and have dinner. The center is 85,000 square feet in size and includes both new and renovated establishments, with stunning street art along the outside walls. Enjoy a cup of coffee at a café, watch a game at a bar, and indulge in gelato for dessert. There are also plenty of clothing and service stores, with salons, cell phone services, and even pop-up vendors. Additionally, patrons can enjoy seasonal events at SALT, such as pop-up concerts, Puppy Pow Wows, and movie nights.

Residents at The Collection are very close to Honolulu’s Restaurant Row, which includes a variety of restaurants, shops, and cafes. The development is close to several grocery stores, including Whole Foods Market, H Mart, and Down to Earth. With endless options for dining, The Collector is a great place for foodies to be.

If you’re looking for an excellent location close to shopping and outdoor attractions, The Collection provides options for several types of homes to meet your needs. As Kakaako continues to grow, more and more developments are becoming available for purchase, so now is a great time to become a part of the community.
