Block D Ward Village

The choice of the name Block D will be influenced by the native flowers, plants and animals, specifically those found along Hawaii's shorelines. This connection is fitting because Block D at Ward Village is a front-row development situated right across from Ala Moana Beach Park. Moreover, Block D holds recognition as a popular flower in Hawaii and was officially designated as the flower of Oahu back in 1923.

Block D's Design: Tower and Podium

Both Block D and Block E at Ward Village will be designed by the same team, including architects Robert A.M. Stern Architects and AHL, with interior design by Champalimaud Design, and landscapes by VITA Planning & Landscape Architecture.

The building's design will feature an angled L-shaped massing (shapes blocked together) to maximize views of Diamond Head and the ocean and incorporate materials that resemble natural stone masonry, reflecting sunlight throughout the day. This aesthetic will be complemented by natural stone details, stone paving, and beautiful bronze metalwork at the street level.

The podium's design will mirror the tower's elements and include a rooftop recreation deck with views of the future Diamond Head Plaza Park. On the street level, Block D will have a terrace and restaurant to make the area more inviting.

Ample parking will be available with 499 off-street parking spaces and access to 70 bicycle parking stalls at street level. Additionally, the development will provide 22 commercial stalls in the district parking garage at 1152 Auahi Street to accommodate various retail needs.

Where is Block D located?

Have you ever been to Piggy Smalls (when it was open) or BoxJelly on the 2nd floor of Ward Center? Block D will replace that area and sit between Auahi St. and Ala Moana Blvd. To the east of Block D will be a future park called Diamond Head Plaza Park and on the west is Block E at Ward Village.

Residences

The 242 residences at Block D Ward Village will include floor-to-ceiling windows and follow best practices for natural ventilation and sustainability. According to the proposed floor plans, the 3 four-bedrooms units will be penthouses on the top floors and include expansive Juliet balcony-style lanais. Floor 32 will be broken up into multiple one-, two-, and three-bedrooms units with lanais only on the Diamond Head side.

There will no reserved housing offered via Block D.

Floor plans and pricing

As Block D at Ward Village is still in the early stages, detailed floor plans and pricing information have not yet been released. However, according to the proposal submitted to HCDA (Hawaii Community Development Authority), the majority of floors will offer residential areas of 15,753 square feet, with an average of 9 units per floor. Comparatively, other front row developments, such as Victoria Place, has less residential space with 10 units per floor. Therefore, our expectation is that Block D's floor plans will be a little bigger.

Amenities

Block D's level 6 amenity deck will offer guest suites, a spa, fitness center, multipurpose rooms, lounges, BBQ cabanas, lap and family pools, park view pavilions, and more.

Block D Ward Village or Block E Ward Village? Or both?

Ward Village presents a diverse range of residential options, each with its own unique identity. Location plays a pivotal role in decision-making, and as the southeastern gateway of Ward Village in Land Block 4, both Block D and Block E offer convenient access to Ala Moana Shopping Center, Ala Moana Beach Park, and the East Village Shops + South Shore Market.

Considering the shared design team and cohesive elements, choosing between Block D and Block E boils down to personal preferences. While both developments offer enticing features, there are notable distinctions to consider. Block D showcases one-bedroom residences in its unit mix, while Block E presents a range of two to five-bedroom options. Additionally, Block E's amenity deck includes a dedicated kid's club and kid's pool, catering to families.

No matter which development you select, both Block D and Block E are scheduled to commence construction in 2025, ensuring something to look forward to.
