Kehalani Gardens is located on the far eastern side of the Kehalani master-planned development. Initial development took place in 2005 and was headed by Stanford Carr. The community currently totals at 135 homes, which are spread out across 22 buildings. This neighborhood is at the base of the West Maui Mountains, just south of the city of Wailuku. Location is just one of the many features responsible for the popularity of Kehalani Gardens.

There are 3 separate floorplans available within this community—1 is a ranch-style plan, and the other 2 are 2-story plans. The single-story units are located at the edges of each building, with only 1 shared wall with the neighboring unit. These 3-bedroom and 2-bathroom homes are 1,043 square feet.

The other floorplans share 2 walls with neighboring units, but, in general, the neighborhood is very peaceful and quiet. One of these plans is a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom unit that is 963 square feet. The other plan is a bit larger and includes 3 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms at 1,170 square feet.

Neighborhood Features

A major selling point for Kehalani Gardens is that the homes have been built with excellent craftsmanship yet are still affordable. The neighborhood features contemporary plantation style homes. Vacation rentals are not permitted, but homeowners may rent out their place for long-term rentals. This quiet community is quaint and works well for many families.

1 bonus of purchasing at Kehalani Gardens is that your home will include 2 parking stalls (generally, 1 stall is covered, and the other is not). Outside storage space is also included. These homes come with a fenced-in back yard, which is convenient for allowing children and pets to play outside. While homeowners are expected to maintain their own backyards, additional grounds are kept up by the community association. Kehalani Gardens is just a short walk to several neighborhood parks, and pathways for walking and biking are incorporated throughout the community.

When you step inside a Kehalani Gardens Condo, you’ll find warm kitchens equipped with oversized counters and cabinets. Some of the previous owners have also built outdoor kitchens as attachments to the home. Each unit comes with a master bedroom suite. The neighborhood in itself is also pet-friendly, and the fenced-in back yards make it easy to keep up with small animals.

The location of Kehalani Gardens is part of what makes it a wonderful neighborhood to live in . You’ll be near the new Pu'u Kukui Elementary School, within walking distance of a commercial center, and just a short drive from downtown Wailuku. Residents will be able to walk to reach public transportation, the grocery store, and fast food restaurants.

Many units enjoy beautiful views of the West Maui Mountains. Front yards of this neighborhood open to cul-de-sacs or to Meakanu lane, so it’s easy to get on the way to wherever you need to go. In total, the neighborhood covers about 11 acres of land.

The Kehalani Development

As part of the Kehalani master-planned development, Kehalani Gardens is 1 of over 15 subdivisions. At completion, Kehalani is expected to feature a total of 2,400 single-family homes and condominiums. These homes will be spread across neighborhoods to cover around 550 acres of land. The initial homes were developed in the 1990s, and the newest homes are still being built today.

Kehalani rests at a higher elevation at the base of the West Maui Mountains. This location provides for milder weather, as the shade from the mountains helps to partially block the afternoon sun. The comfortable weather combined with the beautiful views of the ocean and Mount Haleakala will make you and your family want to get outside.

When navigating the development, you’ll notice the streets are lined with pathways for pedestrians and bikers. The community includes numerous small parks and 1 larger, 13-acre park. Although the development is large, it maintains a small-town feel, especially within the individual neighborhoods. You’ll want to go for a walk, meet your neighbors, and enjoy the Hawaiian sunset in the evening.

Additionally, Kehalani offers the convenience of having a commercial development within the community. The Kehalani Village Center provides access to a gas station, a pharmacy, and a grocery store, so you won’t have to go far to take care of these basic needs.

The Kehalani community is located near many of Maui’s most desired attractions. Residents are able to drive to the North Shore, West Maui, and South Maui beaches in 20 minutes or fewer.
