Specifically, the Kehalani Cottages consist of beautiful 3-bedroom homes that are perfect for families.

The Kehalani Cottages

The Kehalani Cottages is one of the many neighborhoods within the Kehalani development. Located in Wailuku, Maui, Kehalani Cottages features 114 single-family homes that overlook Akolea and align with the slopes of the West Maui Mountains. The Cottages cover over 23 acres of land and provide panoramic views of Haleakala and the ocean.

Each home in this subdivision includes 3 bedrooms and 2 or 2.5 bathrooms. There are 6 different floor plans, with both 1-story and 2-story options available. Homes have been constructed in a contemporary Hawaiian style and range from 1,726 through 2,651 square feet. The actual home sites range from around 4,100 through 15,700 square feet. With huge lots and plenty of living space, it’s not surprising that these homes have been incredibly popular.

Special Features at the Kehalani Cottages

Of the 6 floor plans available at the Kehalani Cottages, 3 of them are 1-story, and 3 of them are 2-story. The 1-story floor plans range from 1,240 through 1,403 square feet of living space, and the 2-story floor plans range from 1,581 through 1,876 square feet. Each home is equipped with a 2-car garage and a driveway, though some homes do share the driveway with an additional residence.

The Kehalani Cottages were developed by Stanford Carr and were carefully crafted with materials that are nicer than a majority of the neighborhoods within the development. Original homes were developed with Craftsman, Cottage, or Plantation finishes. Each home includes open living areas and modern kitchens with built-in appliances. Kitchens feature significant amounts of cabinet and counter space for all of your favorite gadgets.

Additional features within the homes are dependent on the particular lot. Original homeowners may have also made changes to their homes, so it is best to check with the actual listing to confirm any features that are important to you. Some units include separate family and living rooms, allocated storage rooms, and specified laundry areas. Other special features that, such as walk-in closets in the master bedrooms, separate family, kitchen islands, and outdoor lanais, may also be included.

When you purchase a home at the Kehalani Cottages, you will also be expected to pay an HOA fee. Fees are currently less than $200 per month, which is quite low for the area and the benefits associated with living in this development. Property owners each receive fee simple titles as well.

Kehalani Development

The Kehalani master-planned community features over 15 subdivisions across 550 acres of land. Once completed, Kehalani will include 2,400 single-family residences and condos. Kehalani serves as one of the two major planned developments in Maui, and it has been in progress since the 1990s.

One of the most notable benefits of choosing a home in Kehalani is the location. Since the community is set in an elevated area, the temperature tends to be mild, and the views are ridiculously gorgeous. Another benefit of living at a higher elevation is being able to feel the refreshing trade winds in the afternoon. Residents enjoy access to the North Shore, West Maui, and South Maui beaches, which are all within 20 minutes via car. With the wonderful weather and proximity to beautiful places, you’ll want to spend a lot of time outside.

Additionally, the community includes the Kehalani Village Center, which is a small commercial development that supplies grocery, gas, and pharmaceutical services. Residents can easily navigate the area via the numerous bike and pedestrian pathways. There’s no need to drive into town to grab a few groceries when you have access to these resources nearby. Whether you prefer to drive, walk, or bike, you’ll be able to quickly get around the neighborhood!

Other highlights of the development include close access to the Maui Memorial Medical Center, the county buildings, the movie theater, numerous restaurants, and a new elementary school. Individuals who work at the county offices will enjoy close proximity to work. The area includes countless parks and serves as one of the most desired locations in Central Maui.

Life in Central Maui

One of the reasons the Kehalani Cottages has been deemed as one of the best-selling subdivisions in Maui is its close proximity to city attractions while still being tucked away from typical city life. Residents of the Kehalani Cottages are close to elementary schools, parks, and the town shops at Wailuku.

Maui has long been known for its beauty, and the Kehalani Cottages offer incredible ocean and mountain views. The elevated area (up to 800 feet) helps to keep the climate cool and comfortable, and the neighborhood tends to be quiet and peaceful, offering privacy away from the city.

Within the Kehalani neighborhood, you’ll find a network of footpaths that make it easy to travel from place to place throughout the community. There are paved roads and sidewalks to help differentiate car traffic from foot traffic. Residents are able to hop on the Honoapiilani Highway to get to work, and the community offers convenient access to the resorts located near Lahaina for your next staycation.

This Central Maui location is situated in a manner that makes it easy to take day trips to popular attractions, such as the Haleakala National Park and Makena Beach State Park. Go for a scenic Sunday drive to Wailua Valley State Wayside Park, which is located about 31 miles from Kahului.
